Everyday has been a struggle for Nalini Shelke but today she is a confident police officer at the Mumbai Railway Station, earning a monthly salary of Rs. 18,000 and aspires to become an IPS officer and serve India.
“For years, I have given my father, hand in the paddy and wheat fields and walked miles to fill up buckets of water from the well. In 2007, Nalini joined AIM for SEVA Free Student Hostel for Girls in Sawantwadi, Maharashtra and made good of the opportunity that came her way. She scored 98% in her 10th board examination and an impressive score of 93% in her 12th examinations. She decided to pursue her long term dream of becoming a police officer. She aced the job interview for the post in which she was tested for her physical strength and academic skills. Talking of her training schedule she says, “We are trained from 6 am in the morning to 6 pm in the evening everyday with only an hour’s break. One has to be there to experience the excitement and the exhaustion. If not for AIM for SEVA, I do not think I would have achieved so much”.
