Transforming Rural Education with Community Walkathon

Ontario, Canada — In many remote parts of the world, a child’s dream of going to school can be stopped by something as simple as distance. Some children must walk miles to the nearest classroom; others leave school early because their families cannot afford to support their education.

For 25 years, AIM for SEVA Canada has worked to change that reality.

This year, AIM for SEVA Canada celebrates its 25th anniversary—a milestone that reflects decades of commitment to helping children in rural India access education and build brighter futures. To mark the occasion, the organization will host its annual Walk-A-Thon in a grander way, inviting families, supporters, and community members to take steps together in support of rural education.

Over the past quarter century, AIM for SEVA has built a powerful support system for children who face significant barriers to schooling. Through its network of residential student homes, mentorship programs, and long-term educational support, the organization has enabled thousands of children from remote villages to attend school and pursue opportunities that once seemed out of reach.

Over the past 25 years, the organization’s impact has continued to grow. Today, AIM for SEVA:

  • Supports more than 1,250 children each year
  • Sustains 31 student hostels across rural India
  • Provides long-term scholarships, supporting students for 5, 10, or even 20 years so they can complete their education
  • Engages a national network of donors, volunteers, and corporate partners committed to expanding educational access

Thousands of students supported through the program have gone on to complete higher education, pursue professional careers, and become role models within their communities—breaking cycles of poverty and inspiring the next generation of learners.

Education has the power to transform not just individual lives, but entire communities,” said Nimmi Papneja, founding member of AIM for SEVA Canada. “For 25 years, our supporters have helped children in rural India access the opportunities they deserve. The Walkathon is an opportunity for our community in Canada to come together and continue that legacy.”

The upcoming Walk-A-Thon will be a family-friendly community event, welcoming participants of all ages. One hundred percent of the funds raised will go directly toward supporting students through housing, meals, mentorship, and access to education.

More than a fundraising event, the Walk-A-Thon celebrates the stories behind AIM for SEVA’s mission—students who once faced uncertain futures but have gone on to excel academically, build meaningful careers, and give back to their communities. With continued community support, AIM for SEVA hopes to expand its reach and ensure that many more children in rural India can pursue education without barriers.

Community members, families, and supporters are encouraged to participate in the Walk-A-Thon, sponsor participants, or contribute to the cause.

Because every step taken brings a child closer to the classroom—and closer to a brighter future.
